NZ Certificate in Electricity Supply Line Mechanic Distribution Level 4

This Level 4 New Zealand Certificate is to ensure that workers in the electricity supply industry have sufficient knowledge, practical skills, and experience to meet the line mechanic registration requirements of the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) in the distribution sector.

On successful completion of the qualification trainees will be able to work safely to industry standards by taking responsibility for their work and can work independently whilst ensuring the safety of others.

This Qualification is Fully Funded by the Governments Fees Free Trade Training Programme

Course Structure

The course is structured using a mixture of on-job and off-job learning.

Off-job learning is completed during week-long blocks, the trainee will return to their workplace where they will further develop their skills with the guidance of workplace mentors and support from their iskills specialist assessors.

Capstone assessments are included that meet the formal requirements of EWRB Registration.

Also included are plant operator and high-risk activity training that meet the MBIE approved code of practice.

This course will be delivered in a combination of workplace training and off-job block course training with the completion within approximately 24 months.


5 x off-job block courses – plus on-job work experience

  • Total Qualification Cost $9,000 per learner (excl. GST)

Recognising Current Competency

On job assessment program recognising current competency for skilled and experienced workers that don’t hold a current formal qualification.


This qualification will be delivered over 6 – 9 months.

  • Total Qualification Cost $2,860 per candidate (excl. GST)

To be eligible for this RCC assessment, you must meet the following entry criteria:

  • You are a New Zealand citizen, or permanent resident, or hold a visa that allows work and training within New Zealand (A Connexis Training Agreement gives evidence of this criteria).
  • Currently in full time employment in the Electrical Supply Industry as a Line Mechanic.
  • You have 2 years full time experience working within the Electricity Supply Industry beyond your electrical registration.

Learners must have completed:

  • NZCES Level 2
  • 31954 – Install and commission network lines, and service a transformer using an access permit
  • 32255 – Demonstrate and apply knowledge of legislation and codes of practice in the electricity supply industry
